PENANG

Tired of the heat? Hop on the Penang Hill funicular train—yes, that cute little red one—and escape to cooler weather up top. The view? Chef’s kiss. From above, you can spot the whole island stretching out below you. There’s also The Habitat, where you can walk among the treetops and feel like you're in a rainforest fantasy. I usually bring my friends here to chill, sip coffee, and snap those Instagram-worthy skyline shots.

After cooling off at the hill, it’s beach time! Batu Ferringhi is Penang’s golden slice of paradise. Locals love coming here just before sunset—it’s the best time for a breezy walk or even a horse ride by the shore. Feeling adventurous? Try parasailing or jet-skiing. But if you’re like me, just lay back, grab a coconut, and let the waves do the talking. Don’t forget to check out the night market for souvenirs and local snacks!

No trip to Penang is complete without wandering around George Town's street art trails. The murals here are full of character—some playful, some nostalgic. My favorite? "Boy on a Motorcycle". It’s like a fun treasure hunt where every alley hides a surprise. You’ll find locals and tourists alike stopping, smiling, and snapping away.

Eat Your Way Through Penang

🍽️ Eat Your Way Through Penang: A Foodie’s Dream

If there’s one thing you must do in Penang, it’s eat. This vibrant island is a melting pot of flavors, spices, and heritage — where every meal tells a story. Whether you're wandering George Town's historic streets or following the local queues at roadside stalls, Penang is Malaysia’s food capital for a reason.

🌶️ Laksa Penang – A Bowl of Tangy Goodness

You haven’t truly tasted Penang until you've slurped a bowl of Penang Laksa. Thick rice noodles swim in a spicy-sour fish broth made from mackerel and tamarind, topped with fresh vegetables and a spoonful of prawn paste. It’s bold, zesty, and uniquely addictive. Best enjoyed roadside with a tissue in hand and spice on your lips.

🍛 Nasi Kandar – Flavours that Never End

Step into a Nasi Kandar stall and you're hit with an aroma that’s impossible to resist. This beloved Penang dish features steamed rice paired with a mix of curries—from spicy chicken to okra, fried fish, and beef rendang. Ask for "banjir" (flooded) and they’ll pour a little of every curry on top. Messy? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely.

🍜 Char Kuey Teow – Smoky Perfection on a Plate

A plate of Char Kuey Teow is the true soul of Penang street food. Flat rice noodles are stir-fried over high heat with eggs, prawns, Chinese sausage, bean sprouts, and chives in a sizzling wok. The result? Smoky, savory, and slightly charred — the perfect balance of flavor and texture.
